HACKiversity offers a unique and refreshing perspective on college and the direction we're pushing our kids. The antiquated formula of respected college + good grades = high paying job is debunked. However, with anecdotes and vignettes, Winey shows how teens and college students can make the best use of their time and how to translate their effort into a successful career.I was so impressed after reading his book that my nonprofit organization invited the author to be the keynote speaker to 50 youth and parents as part of a high school leadership program. Connecting to the youth and encouraging the parents to shift their traditional thoughts, Kyle was a hit! I'm grateful to have this toolkit in my arsenal and continue to recommend the book to all of my friends and youth leaders.

I got this book as a gift for my wife's cousin. Entering her senior year of high school, she is a high achiever and is seemingly always busy with school and activities. Therefore, I thought this book would help with optimizing her time.The HACKing framework, appearing cumbersome at a glance, serves a purpose with a focus on exploring what works best for you and making the most of your college experience. Mr. Winey makes a few points in his book that was insightful to me:- He stresses the importance of networking and internships, which I have seen materialize in my career to support the adage, "It's not what you know, it's who you know."- He stresses the importatce of non-negotiable skills, which are soft skills that are critical to most professions.- He says that college is the best time to experiment as it would be much harder to make a change later in life.Mr. Winey's turbulent experiences shine through in this well-written book. He realized his bright mind and tangible results didn't secure his dream job, but he used his experiences and bright mind to write this book. Highly recommend.

Great book and very timely for me. Have two high school seniors trying to figure out where to go to college and what careers to pursue. This book may help me save many thousands of dollars. It will almost certainly help my sons get a job. Had a chance to attend a talk with Mr Winey. My son came with me and took three pages of notes! I recommend this for anyone near or in college (or parents of those).

Easy step-by-step guide for high school/college students (or anyone really) that can yield profound results. Perhaps, the things you are stressing over don't actually matter. Ultimately, the book is about finding your right college/major/job - but, perhaps the nuggets of wisdom along the way are where the real jackpots lie - like: the importance of early self-awareness, experimentation is king, and perception is the reality - everything else is an illusion. A great read and will likely be your best investment!

Thought-provoking, in-depth, heart-plumbing and intellectually stimulating. I wish this book was out back when I was in college, a few years ago! Kyle engages the reader on a deeper level without going over your head. He truly "speaks the language" of the modern college student and gets down at their level.

Well documented, great illustrative examples, and a very open writing style. Kyle reveals himself in all his failings (and analytic strengths). A great book to give to a graduating high school senior -- or to yourself if you want to pinpoint the route to success.

A great exercise for any learner, at any age - know thy self, find your passion, and endeavor with joy at your life's work.

Great read. I wish I had this book when I was going through college. This should be mandatory reading for high school students.
